RWA World Newsletter - May 16, 2025
Another tokenized Friday on the menu! Ray Buckton, Head of Research at RWA World, serving up some exclusive insights that newsletter subscribers get first. 🥇
SEDA and RWA World collaborated on a powerful report diving into the importance of oracles and high-fidelity data for tokenized assets. 🔍
The CPO of S&P Dow Jones Indices, Cameron Drinkwater, spoke about the importance of oracles and data at the TokenizeThis conference – the top minds in the industry are firmly focused on problems that SEDA and RWA World are solving. 🤝
🎯🔥 Rapid Fire Takeaways:
🌍 Stripe rolls out stablecoin accounts in over 100 countries
📈 USDT Supply Surpasses $150 Billion — Tron Overtakes Ethereum as Dominant Network
With the RWA sector surging by 46% in TVL since the start of 2025 and now surpassing $22 billion on-chain, there’s never been a better time to join the conversation. 🗣️
You can do just that on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 pm EDT on Wolf Crypto – join industry leaders, issuers, and founders as we discuss the past, present, and future of tokenized assets. 🐺
💠 Stablecoins Leading As Usual
Stablecoins are once again leading the pack and had a powerful week. Anchorage Digital bought Mountain Protocol, and USDM is winding down and moving toward consolidation. Social media giant Meta is exploring stablecoin payouts while Stripe is on a tear, expanding stablecoin accounts to over 100 countries. 🗺️
Tether is now available in Korea as the nation’s central bank seeks more control, while Paxos and Robinhood-founded Global Dollar Network added 19 new members for its Solana-based USDG. Speaking of Tether, USDT supply ripped past $150 billion as Tron overtook Ethereum as the home for stablecoins… for now. ⚔️
Further afield, the US territory of the Northern Mariana Islands overrode a veto of the stablecoin bill in a battle for regulatory clarity. The GENIUS Act also failed to clear the US Senate, with US Treasury Secretary Bessent calling it a “missed opportunity.” But there’s always Kyrgyzstan, which is launching its own USD-pegged, gold-backed stablecoin, USDKG, in Q3. 🌏
🧪 Tokenization In The Market
Tokenized assets are neat, but they’re inert without corresponding market action. A recent report shows that RWAs like gold are a balm for traders’ portfolios when volatility strikes. Networks like Mavryk and Matrixdock are pioneering in bringing these assets on-chain, like their recent $3 billion tokenization deal out of the UAE and framework for asset ownership, respectively. 👏
Also, out of Dubai, tokenized olive trees are now as digital as they are delicious on a salad. In a region full of sunshine, it’s no surprise that green technologies like solar are also pioneering green asset digitization to ensure end-to-end transparency in an industry often viewed with skepticism. 🤨
Experimentation is the name of the game, with RWAs and Bitcoin getting closer thanks to Plume collaborating with B2 Network. Aave Lab’s Horizon is also working with Ant Digital on an RWA market on Ethereum, while Custodia is working with Vantage on cross-border tokenized deposition on the network. Additionally, Northern Trust joined Hong Kong’s Project Ensemble to pilot carbon credit tokenization. ♻️
🌤️ Adoption On The Rise
Market action leads to adoption – PREH Multifamily Fund is launching a $100 million real estate fund on Chintai. BlackRock, never to be outdone, has a crypto task force exploring ETP staking and tokenization while pushing the SEC to approve its ETF staking initiatives. 👀
Dubai isn’t just bullish on olive trees – they think real estate tokenization may create a wave of interest and investment. They’ve also tapped Crypto.com to enable crypto payments for government services. Talk like this encourages entities like Spark to commit $1 billion to tokenized treasuries and GTJAI to broker the launch of tokenized securities. ⚡
Jump Crypto isn’t being left behind, working to lead in tokenized securities. Deutsche Börse’s 360T launched its 3DX Digital Exchange for crypto, showing deep interest in the space. All this interest leads to investment, with Savea raising $2.5 million in pre-seed funding and Alt DRX raising $2.7 million in a pre-series A round. Plus, Colb Asset just raised to bring pre-IPO on-chain so that these raises can become more common. 💰
🤠 Regulation Roundup
Rules are rules, with the SEC proposing exemptions for tokenization and Robinhood planning blockchain-based asset trading for US assets in Europe. These US assets are a hot topic, seeing Superstate expanding into tokenzied equities, and MyStonks kicking off a tokenized US stock market. Plus, tokenized MSFT is in the works, showing big interest in tokenizing equities. 📊
States are involved too – the Arizona governor killed two crypto bills and is cracking down on Bitcoin ATMs, with Oregon going the other way and legalizing Bitcoin as collateral. A Florida pharma firm will also use XRP for real-time payments in a $50 million deal, showing it’s not just Bitcoin. ⚖️
And while the BIS shows low-value bitcoin transfers reshaping remittances, Germany clawed back $38 million in stolen crypto from the ByBit hack earlier this year. Infrastructure is evolving fast – Chainlink has three major products to redefine Web3 economics, and SC Malaysia is looking to tokenize its capital market products. 🚀
👁️ Oracles On-Chain
What a great week.
Read the report from SEDA and RWA World about the future of on-chain validation and data.
After all, what good is a tokenized instrument if the price and information are all wrong?
Until next time, have an excellent weekend and week!
