🐘 TokenizeThis Reveals Everything Will Be Tokenized
RWA World Newsletter - April 25, 2025
Fresh off the plane from New York City, Ray Buckton, Head of Research at RWA World, is ready to jam on some tokenization. 🏙️
The TokenizeThis conference, held at the Glass House in the Hell’s Kitchen district, was a spectacular event filled to the brim with the biggest names in digital assets. ⭐
It was put together by our friends over at Security Token Market, who also manage the RWA Foundation – a special thanks to Jason and Herwig for the fantastic hospitality at the event. 🤝
🎯🔥 Rapid Fire Takeaways:
🚀 Stellar Sees $3B of Real World Assets Coming On-Chain in 2025
⛓️ Ethena, Securitize Target Q2 Mainnet Launch for RWA-Focused Blockchain, Tap Arbitrum, Celestia
Of course, we had an absolute blast at the event – check out the recap from Wolf Crypto. 🐺
Let’s dive in with a recap of the electrifying tokenization talks we heard live. ⚡
🎤 Interview Highlights
Dave Hendricks of Vertalo likely needs no introduction. As the mastermind behind the world’s first compliant tokenized equity launch, his perspectives are more relevant today than ever, and are on full display via the Chain Enabled substack page. It’s worth a read. 📖
I had the pleasure of sitting down with Dave for a deep dive on his thoughts regarding the scale of asset tokenization, what it takes to manage tokenized assets throughout their lifecycle, and where the industry is headed. 🔮
💧 Not-So-Liquid Assets?
Liquidity is an ongoing process for tokenized assets – despite surface-level assumptions, tokenizing an asset does not intrinsically entail greater liquidity. Sometimes, it's the exact opposite. 💧
In the “Tackling the Liquidity Problem” panel, Roberto Durscki, Senior Director of Tokenization at Stellar Development Foundation, Prasanth Kalangi, Founder/CEO of Zoniqx, Brian Anderson, CEO of Raze, and John Linnehan, CEO of Digital Asset Securities and Affiliate of 21X, discussed this reality in depth. Alexis Johnson, CEO at Light Node Ventures, did a fantastic job moderating. 👏
There are three essential pieces of the liquidity puzzle for tokenized assets: compliance, modularity, and interoperability. 🔌
🤫 Private Credit Going Public?
It’s no secret that private markets are the envy of many investors for their high yields. But the integrity of the opportunities is marred by the markets’ opacity. On-chain lending has the potential to mitigate this issue significantly. 🩹
The “Onchain Lending & Private Credit Markets” panel brought together Sidney Powell, CEO at Maple Finance, Jonathan Casterline, Director of Institutional Partnerships at Centrifuge, and Anthony Moro, CEO at ProvLabs, for an enlightening discussion on what tokenization means for private markets. Peter Gaffney, Director of DeFi & Digital Trading at Inveniam brought it all together with excellent moderation. 📀
The takeaway? Tokenization will achieve for private markets what stock markets have done for publicly listed companies – greater liquidity, transparency, and investability at scale. ⚖️
🏛️ Institional Infrastrucutre Time
Institutions are the driving force behind asset tokenization. It’s not quite crypto, it’s not quite TradFi – it’s something in between. The big question now is, how do we build the tools institutions need to issue and manage digital assets efficiently? 🤔
Well, Andrew Czupek, Head of Innovation and Advocacy at Northern Trust, Ric Golubov, VP of Digital Assets Business Development & Partnerships at Franklin Templeton, and Ubair Javaid, CEO at Nomyx, moderated by Eleanor Terrett, Journalist and Host at Crypto In America, have some ideas. 💡
Once again, modularity and composability are essential features, as well as ease of access for institutions. The value is there – the challenge is ensuring that issuers and managers can access compliant, scalable tools that make digital assets as seamless as traditional systems. ⛸️
🗞️ Your RWA Weekly News
The conference was great, but of course, this week was still filled with tokenization! Some executives are calling for $1 trillion in tokenized stocks, while Stellar anticipates $3 billion coming on-chain by 2025, and StanChart predicts $2 trillion in stablecoins by 2028 – a significant acceleration. 🏎️
The inflows prove it – Blocksquare and Vera Capital are tokenizing $1 billion in US real estate, LIQI and XDC are tokenizing $500 million in Brazil. Then, Neturl raised $5 million to tokenize a hedge fund as Metaplanet stacked another $28 million in Bitcoin, clearing the $400 million mark. 📈
Ethena and Securitize are working with Arbitrum for their new L1 blockchain, Celestia, while 21X is working with Dusk. Oh, and Bitget is tokenizing gold in tandem with Solowin Digital Horizon getting in bed with StanChart, Libeara, and AlloyX to launch its $RYT token. 🚀
On the national and international body front, Paul Atkins is now SEC chair, Russia is considering stablecoins to circumvent sanctions, and the BIS is exploring DeFi. In terms of reports, Taurus released a great tokenization report this week for your reading pleasure. 🤓
💝 That’s A Wrap
