🏛️ Govs, Regs, and Associations

International regulatory bodies are getting serious about tokenization, with SWIFT working with Ripple and Hedera on cross-border payments and the Basel Committee revisiting crypto asset standards. Stateside, the Federal Reserve’s Waller urges more innovation as the FOMC is finally talking stablecoins. Meanwhile, the OCC has officially cleared community banks to use stablecoins, paving the way for further integration. 🦅

Further south, Bitfinex is bullish on LATAM tokenization, as Argentina launches a stock tokenization regulatory sandbox. Across the Atlantic, crypto executives are urging the UK to create a national stablecoin strategy or risk falling behind the US, as the nation sanctions Kyrgyz banks for their role in a Russian crypto network. The EU is listening, granting Gemini a MiCA license and pushing forward with a digital euro, going so far as to debate using a public blockchain to make it happen. 💶

Recently, all eyes have been on Hong Kong (given their new stablecoin regulations) and, to a lesser extent, China. The mainland is gearing up for a huge stablecoin push, which could have big implications for Hong Kong and the US dollar in the region. Add the deepening US dollar peg that we’re seeing in Hong Kong, thanks to the latest regulatory regime, to the mix, and there are some serious geopolitical chess moves at play here.

🔍 Tokenization Developments

Funding is getting spicy, with Verb Technology raising $558 million and DigiFT raising $25 million. Republic also took a stake in Centrifuge, further boosting its commitment to tokenization. Naturally, it’s not always about investment – big partnerships are working across the board:

👛 Stablecoins

Stablecoins are becoming increasingly valuable tools for payroll in developed markets, but may put pressure on money market funds. For developing economies, they’re a superpower. Stablecoins are making huge moves across Africa and are the backbone of LATAM’s decentralized economy. Speaking of decentralized, Ethena's USDE is redefining algorithmic stablecoins as it rapidly crossed the $500 million revenue mark and rolled out its first eligible asset framework. 🌐

As Japan prepares to roll out its yen-denominated stablecoin, BDIC HK LTD launched a risk coverage product for institutional stablecoin holdings. At the same time, MetaMask is preparing to launch its native mUSD stablecoin, as Trump’s USD1 is gaining traction after being included in Coinbase’s latest roadmap. Everywhere we look, stablecoin payments are driving real-time financial transformation. 🌱

The Trump family has been busy, with World Liberty Financial minting $205 million in stablecoins as regulatory clarity reshapes valuations across the board. Citi has some opinions on the matter, warning that stablecoin yields could drain bank deposits as Citigroup considers custody and payment services in stablecoins and crypto ETFs. As Haycen secures a stablecoin license in Bermuda, there’ll never be a dull moment in the future for tokenized payments. 💳

📊 RWA Sectors & Ecosystems

Tokenization protocols are evolving rapidly, with Chainlink becoming the first oracle platform with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certifications. Curve is experiencing some drama and is debating minting 60 million new crvUSD for yield, while China Renaissance is allocating $100 million to BNB in the first Binance-centric treasury company. 

Of course, tokenized stocks and funds continue to fly, but not without issue. Tokenized stocks could reach a $1.3 trillion market cap as regulators warn of a ticking time bomb, as OpenAI asks platforms about tokenized shares. That’s not slowing things down, as DBS adds tokenized crypto notes and SkyBridge Capital tokenizes $300 million in funds on Avalanche. Tron also welcomed tokenized equities as Matrixport tokenized CMB International’s USD fund, and Grayscale seeks approval from the SEC to convert its Avlaanche Trust into an ETF. 🔺

Normally, when talking about tokenized real estate, we refer to physical properties, like EstateX’s recently launched second US offering. Interestingly enough, the same benefits of fractional ownership may extend to premium internet domains—tokenization benefits real estate of all types. Commodities are also on deck, with Sky Quarry signing an MOU for tokenization. ⛏️
