💱 Bitcoin to Flip Gold? RWA Takeover!
RWA World Newsletter - Mar 1, 2024
The real-world asset tokenization party keeps turning up the heat! 🔥
With ETH Denver in full swing and new all-time highs in the crosshairs, feelings of vindication and excitement are palpable. 📈👅
🎯🔥 Rapid Fire Takeaways:
Folks are feeling feverish for digital assets. 🌡️
And prevention is the best medicine, so let’s get you up to date on tokenization. 🩺👇
💃 Bitcoin Flies Along With Inflows
Anyone with an internet connection or social contact under 45 has heard about Bitcoin’s breathtaking breakout. It’s all over the news and everything the industry hoped for post-ETF. 💹
While some analysts predict a slowdown to inflows, last week saw volumes 1400% higher than in week one. That’s some serious acceleration for the ETF landscape. 👀
Now, murmurs of the fledgling Bitcoin ETF value eclipsing gold ETF’s $90 billion valuation are circulating. 💱
Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas wrote on Twitter that he expects the flip to occur in less than two years – a seriously bullish sentiment for what many folks have called “digital gold” for years. 🥇
And he’s not alone. The third-largest asset manager in Germany, already a huge fan of digital assets, is launching a new blockchain fund with a specific focus on German-based DLT solutions. It sounds like those new tokenization regulations are paying off! ⛰️

⚪ Tokenized Treasury Thunderdome
Massive market movement in tokenized U.S. Treasury assets, as tokenization giant Centrifuge has partnered with Finoa to offer its tokenized t-bill fund to hundreds of crypto institutions. 💼
Centrifuge’s Anemoy fund, comprised of short-term t-bills, is a perfect fit for the German-based Finoa, whose co-founder cited clients who regularly hold non-yield bearing stablecoins. 🤝
Meanwhile, rival t-bill tokenizer Ondo Finance has expanded its offering to the Aptos blockchain, continuing the organizational quest for on-chain accessibility dominance. ⛳
Aptos is the latest blockchain on the scene that promises a scalable solution for the Blockchain Trilemma, and offering institutional-grade investments via Ondo is one way to bring the volume. 🔊
⚖️States Set Standards
Digital asset regulation is evolving rapidly and significantly across all jurisdictions. The fantastic folks at The Tokenizer recently compiled a comprehensive report on security token regulation across the European continent. 💶
We crunch a lot of data at RWA World and recognize a great report when we see one – make sure to give this one a read. And great job, The Tokenizer team! 😊
Across the pond, the Federal Reserve has taken a keen interest in CBDCs with a straightforward goal: to ensure any CBDCs issued by the U.S. are neutral or positive to global dollar dominance. 🎯
While this move is in the United States’ rational economic self-interest, they may not have to worry about it. Five senators, including Ted Cruz, have floated a bill to ban CBDCs from the United States as the ongoing drama over the future of state-backed finance continues to evolve. 🎭
🗺️ Ancient Land, New Technologies
South Africa has officially begun work on a stablecoin regime, targeting December 2024 as the target date for the discussion paper. The third-most wealthy nation on the African continent has so far lagged in digital asset regulation but has begun to hand down enforcement orders. 📜
Across the continent, financial institutions have begun to cool on digital assets and crypto. Last year saw over 63% of respondents responding positively to opportunities in crypto – this year, that figure has collapsed to 30%. 🔍
Citizens disagree. Despite a deep market cooldown, crypto volumes rose 9% in Nigeria last year. This divergence in sentiment between financial managers and the average citizens may partly be informed by the regional financial sector’s reputation for unorthodox management practices. 🤨

🚀 Gains and Games
Across the social landscape, tokenization is taking center stage. A new RWA-backed stablecoin from Usual, coined USD0, is hitting the market. The asset primarily uses Treasury assets to back up its yield but also includes exposure to things like gold and other real-world assets. 💵
While new market entrants prepare, old names experiment. 🔬
Rabobank is piloting a €2 billion commercial paper deal that uses DLT for intraday settlement. The challenge? Speed up the two-day (T2) settlement standard for corporate paper, focusing on interoperability. 🔌
Settlement speed and finality remain two of the most attractive features of distributed ledger technology. The ability to transform multi-day settlement times into multi-minute finality is the financial equivalent of the invention of the printing press. 💥
And socially, the concepts are starting to stick. 🏒
⚽ Messi Impacts Planet
Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. Lionel Messi is one of the sport’s most popular players. 🏆
So it was kind of a big deal when Planet, a RWA project focused on low-impact consumerism and environmental sustainability, announced a partnership with the soccer legend. 😱♻️
More details on the partnership will be released later today (March 1st), shortly after this hits your inbox, via Planet’s Twitter account. 🕞
…
Is that a goal for tokenization, or what? 🥅
Is this tokenization’s Tom Brady moment, or are we still in the first half of this match? 🏈⚽
